Photographer based in NYC

My name is Jasper James DeWitt, a 20 year old attending Hamilton College in Clinton, NY. I grew up in Manhattan, New York City.

Currently, I am a digital media intern at Hamilton, where my work gets posted on the various social media accounts to promote the college. This work can be viewed mainly on Instagram @hamiltoncollege.

While growing up, my family would do a joint trip with my mom’s brother and his family every summer, in a tradition we now cherish called Cousin’s Camp. Each year, our two families would decide on a location to visit and devise an intense itinerary to explore that destination to the best of our ability. Our trips are usually domestic one year, and then international the next. Personally, my favorite trip so far has been Greece in 2018, where we got to explore Athens, a small island called Serifos, and Crete. These trips are no typical “vacation,” by any means. In Crete one day, we woke up at 4:00AM to hike 13 miles through a gorge, and finished before lunch. 

Traveling is genuinely my favorite activity to do, and in the summer of 2022, I was able to take a two week trip to Iceland with 20 other students on a program called Putney Student Travel. On this trip, I was led by National Geographic professional photographer Erika Larsen, where I embarked on a climate and photography based workshop. I had never experienced anything quite like Iceland before, and immediately fell in love.

Before Iceland, I had already naturally been falling into the photography world. During COVID, my dad taught me how to use a real camera and we would go out to Madison Square Park to take photos for me to practice. Soon after I started doing this, I started actually volunteering with the park, sending in photos for them to use on their social media platforms.

This collection is really for me to showcase my work and progress over the extended period of time I will be taking photos.
